Joseph picked us up at the airport at 2 am, took us to a hotel to get a couple hours of sleep, and then we got picked up in the morning to head up to Ol Pejeta for 3 days and then Castle Forest Lodge for 2 nights, before returning to Nairobi. Ol Pejeta was absolutely amazing, as we expected. The surprise for us was how much fun Castle Forest Lodge was. There were very few guests those days, so we ended up hanging out with our amazing guide, Peter, and his sidekick, driver John, and we couldn’t have had a better time. In addition to their great attitude and senses of humor, Peter is both incredibly knowledgeable about wildlife in general, and also a serious birder, so we really benefited from his insight. Meanwhile, John has been driving and guiding for ages, and he his knowledge of the country is encyclopedic. We even added a bonus day when we got back to Nairobi, going to visit to a coffee plantation near Nairobi, which would have never occurred to us had John not suggested it.
