David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust & Giraffe Centre
Best known for being Pioneers in the rescue and hand-raising of orphaned baby elephants and rhinos, through to their reintegration to the wild when grown. Saving wild lives today and securing habitats for the future generation. The baby elephant orphanage on the edge of Nairobi National Park is the first to successfully hand-rear infant elephants and rehabilitate them. Once the orphans have healed psychologically and physically, usually at around the age of two years, they are then ready for the next phase of their rehabilitation at Ithumba in Tsavo National Park.
There are 3 visiting time slots at the Nairobi orphanage each day and we recommend planning ahead to ensure you get to spend time with the orphans:
Number of Pax | Cost per Person (USD) |
---|
1 pax | $150 |
2 pax | $95 |
3 pax | $75 |
4 pax | $65 |
5 pax | $60 |
6 pax | $55 |
Fostering an Elephant
The Orphan’s Project exists through donations from individuals and organizations, particularly support provided via the Trust’s Fostering Programme. You can foster a baby elephant for yourself or as a gift at a cost of $50 per year. Select ‘your elephant’ online and receive monthly updates and drawings.
AT Giraffe Centre, this is a rare opportunity of literary coming face to face with Africa’s tallest animal – the giraffe or even getting a kiss from the giraffe. Feed Daisy, the famous Rothschild giraffe and her family and learn about the success story of the once endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Entrance fee contributes to other conservation projects in Kenya.
