Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Mugie Conservancy, Laikipia Mugie House

When you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you will be met and driven to Wilson Airport for your Governors’ Aviation flight straight to Mugie Conservancy (departing at 0815hrs to arrive at 0945hrs), landing in the heart of Kenya’s Laikipia highlands. There is a short car transfer of about 20 minutes over to Governors’ Mugie House, where a delicious lunch will be waiting. Depending on what you feel like doing, you can either head out on your first afternoon game drive and explore this pristine wilderness, abundant with wildlife, lay by the pool or enjoy a siesta. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks around a fire, dinner and overnight at Mugie.

Day 2 - 3: Mugie Conservancy, Laikipia: Mugie House

After breakfast at our hotel, a safari briefing will follow on the adventures ahead later depart by road driving across the equator from the Southern to the Northern Hemisphere, and onwards to the semi-arid region of the Samburu Game Reserve. The name Samburu is of Maasai origin, a ‘samburr’ is a traditional leather bag the Masai use for carrying honey and milk. This region is characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds (depending on the season of the year) and its red volcanic soil. Rock outcroppings contrast against the dense woodland vegetation along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, the river that gives life to the reserve. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, who are ‘cousins’ to the Maasai people with their own distinct cultural traditions. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch, followed by some leisure hours for a siesta or swim before you depart for an afternoon game viewing drive, and return back to the lodge before sunset. Day 4: Mugie to the Masai Mara Governors’ Camp, Little Governors' Or Il Moran

This are two more days in the Samburu Game Reserve will be spent searching for the Samburu five and observing the vast unspoiled scenery during morning and afternoon game drives. The park is plentiful with crocodiles that bask on muddy riverbanks and velvet monkeys that frolic in the late afternoon sun. Samburu is renowned for its rare species of fauna known as the ‘Samburu five’. These five particular animals are usually only found north of the equator – the long necked gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe which is characterized by its liver-colored geometric patches defined by narrow white lines, the Grevy’s zebra which is smaller than the common zebra and looks more like a horse, the Beisa Oryx with black horizontal stripe running across its lower flank and the Somali ostrich males which have blue-grey necks and thighs. Day 5 - 6:Masai Mara: Governor's Camp, Little Governors' or Il Moran

Arise early each morning to make the most of your spectacular location. Each day will offer you the option of three game drives within the Mara National Reserve, immersing yourself in this rich wildlife destination. For a particularly memorable and unforgettable experience, enjoy a surreal journey in a hot air balloon, with Governors’ Balloon Safaris (please note that this is an extra cost), over the Masai Mara plains, ending with a delicious cooked, breakfast complete with bubbles, wherever you land!

Day 7: Masai Mara to Nairobi: Departure Day

Breakfast will be served at the Camp followed by check out. Our destination is Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge therefore we depart after breakfast and We arrive in time for lunch at our lodge by the lake, in afternoon we take a sunset boat ride at the lake as well as enjoy a nature walk at Crescent Island is an excellent way to see wild animals while on foot. The Island is a private game sanctuary, which is home to zebra, wildebeest, gazelle, Vervet monkeys, hares, genet cats, waterbuck and giraffe. Or you may wish to lounge by the pool admiring the view of zebras, Giraffes and waterbuck just outside the fence. Dinner and overnight at Naivasha Sopa Lodge. Meal Plan {Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner}.
