It is now preserved as a museum where visitors can travel back in time and gain an insight into the life of this remarkable woman. Furniture, artifacts, and photographs from her days as pioneer coffee farmer are on display.
Depending on where we will be during the day, we’ll drive about 15 minutes to the Kazuri bead factory. More than 300 local women, most single mothers, work together to produce handmade beads, pottery, and jewelry that gets exported to more than 20 countries around the world. Kazuri, Swahili for “small and beautiful,” aptly describes the precise, detailed work undertaken by these skilled artisans, and our small group size will give us the opportunity to witness their process firsthand.
