Gatamaiyu Forest is part of the larger Kereita forest within the Aberdare ranges. It has rich Biodiversity, landscapes, waterfalls, and a peaceful atmosphere. As you explore the forest you come across a wide range of Flora and Fauna. It’s a good spot for bird watching, hiking and a paradise for nature lovers. The forest is covered with a wide range of different species of plants, shrubs, and flowers.

This forest is home to approximately 138 recorded bird species. 31 forest specialists and 20 are considered rare and uncommon. It is a habitat of around 39 of Kenya’s 67 Afro tropical Highland’s biome bird species.

The Gatamiayu forest is preserved and managed by the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), which is responsible for conserving and Managing all Public forests in Kenya. Environmental Organizations and Local Communities support conservation efforts to promote Ecotourism. This collaboration ensures that biodiversity is protected, and natural resources are used appropriately.

Getting to Gatamaiyu Forest from Nairobi takes about 30 km and approximately 45 minutes, depending on the traffic conditions. From Limuru Town, you will go straight to Gatamaiyu forest, which is a short drive to the forest entrance. You can use Waiyaki Way, leading you through Gitaru and Wangige.
